Soft and Open Heart
We spend so much of life rushing, always trying to keep the pace,
so busy thinking about where we're going, everything is done in such a haste.
Our days are filled with things to do, with lists that never end,
and somehow, we have come to think, that being busy means we're doing well.
We chase the things we think we need; we plan how life should be,
and hold on tightly to the things, that we're afraid of setting free.
Perhaps the things we hold so tight, were never ours to keep,
and sometimes when we let them go, we find the space to breathe.
Because sometimes when we stop awhile, and take a breath or two,
we realise the life we've worked hard for, was here the whole time too.
What if we listened to ourselves, and gave a little space,
What if we stopped for long enough, to meet ourselves with grace.
The body tells us when it's tired, the mind knows when it's full,
but still we keep on pushing through, as though we always will.
And maybe the peace we’re searching for, isn't something we have to find,
perhaps it comes from letting go, and leaving some things behind.
Because life will never follow, every plan we make along the way,
and maybe we don't need to know, what's coming every day.
Perhaps there's beauty in the pause, in not knowing what comes next,
in trusting that we don't need to, have it all worked out just yet.
For maybe we're not here to be, some perfect work of art,
perhaps we're simply here to live… with a soft and open heart.
