Sound Therapy: Contraindications & Safety

Sound therapy is a gentle, relaxing experience, but it may not be suitable for everyone. Your comfort and wellbeing are important to me, so please read the following guidance before booking a session.

Please contact me before booking if any of the following apply to you:

  • Epilepsy or a history of seizures, particularly if they can be triggered by sound.

  • Pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Please seek advice from your midwife or healthcare professional before attending.

  • Pacemakers or other implanted electronic medical devices. Please seek advice from your healthcare professional before booking.

  • Tinnitus, hyperacusis or sound sensitivity, as certain tones or frequencies may aggravate your symptoms.

  • Recent surgery, significant injury or a serious medical condition, particularly if you have been advised to avoid sound or vibration.

  • Metal implants or joint replacements, especially if you have concerns about how vibrations may affect you.

  • A significant mental health condition or a history of trauma, if you are concerned that a deeply relaxing or immersive sound experience could feel overwhelming.

This list is not exhaustive. If you have any health concerns or are unsure whether sound therapy is suitable for you, please speak to your healthcare professional and contact me before booking. Some situations may require adjustments to the session, while others may mean it is best to postpone.

During Your Session

Everyone experiences sound differently. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed or sensitive to the sounds, please let me know. You are always welcome to change position, ask for the volume to be reduced or take a break.

An Important Note

Sound therapy is offered as a complementary wellbeing practice to encourage relaxation and rest. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical or mental health conditions, and it is not a substitute for professional medical care.

If you have any questions about whether a session is right for you, please get in touch before booking. I am always happy to discuss your concerns.
